The leak appears to be under the roof penetration for the gas tankless water heater.

Gas must continuously run upward toward the chimney entrance to provide proper draft.
At times the gasket that helps keep the water in the tank when the drain is closed can wear out leading to a leak.
If it s an electric water heater.
Turn off the power to the leaking water heater.
The first place to check is the plumbing pipes above the water heater.
Check if there are any droplets of water on top or on the bottom of the water heater tank or inside the combustion chamber.
A drip from above can easily leak down on top of the water heater and even work its way down the insulation and make it look like the leak is coming from the tank itself.
Can the water heat read more.
If it s a gas water heater it will have a dial or an on off switch near the spot where the gas line connects.
Unfortunately it s a 2 story house with a moderately steep roof angle so super scary to go on the roof.
You should have as much vertical rise as possible before there is a turn.
Here s what to look for.
I took a picture from the top of the ladder to check it out.
Check the plumbing pipes above the water heater using a stepladder if necessary.
Its not the pipe it self its the hole the pipe comes out of.
The fume hood needs to be seated properly on the top of the tank.
The drain on your water heater is another common point of failure that can cause leaks.

My gas water heater is 4 years old and it is leaking water from the top of it where the hot water comes out of the pipe.
