Maintain the water level in the boiler at half full. When you release the button the flame should stay. While you are holding the reset button turn on a long lighter and hold it near the pilot light opening. The water level is low.

The thermocouple is a device that shuts off the gas when the pilot light flame goes out. First check to ensure all of the wiring is attached securely with the heater turned off at the breaker box and if that isn t the issue you ll need to replace the thermocouple. These are only surface level problems though. The boiler s automatic filling system controlled by the pressure reducing valve should maintain the proper water level at 12 to 15 psi of pressure.

When it goes out there is no hot water and no heating. A blockage in the burner could lead to the boiler not firing up to provide your home with heating and hot water. After waiting 5 minutes for the gas to dissipate turn the switch to pilot and hold down the reset button. Here are the three main reasons why your pilot light may not be working.

To relight your pilot light turn the pilot light dial to the off position and wait for 5 minutes. There can be some much more serious issues that take a lot longer to fix. There is a thermocouple issue. A gas safe registered engineer will be able to clean the burner or replace it if necessary.

Most often the reason is debris that is blocking the jet. Often when your pilot light continually goes out it is due to the thermocouple. All of these issues will cause the pilot light. Without a pilot light the boiler won t be able to provide central heating or domestic hot water.

The pilot may not cover the top of the thermocouple rod. It can break and malfunction. Ensure you only hold the switch down once the pilot light has ignited to reduce the chances of any gas accumulating again. No pilot light on boiler.

Turn the gas to pilot press and hold the reset switch for one minute and hold a flame to the pilot light at the same time. This pilot light may not always stay lit due to a variety of issues that may affect the gas supply or ignitor. All gas appliances need a near constant gas supply to work correctly and if none of it gets to the pilot light or the pilot light isn t working then it can t ignite and ensure that you get the temperature that you need.
